Foreign firm to set up biomass power plant in Iloilo soon

MANILA, Philippines - A foreign firm is set to start soon the construction of a biomass power plant in Iloilo.

Global Green Power, a company specializing in renewable and alternative energy, is already on the Phase 1 of is construction of its biomass project in the country, saying construction will start as soon as the community and the local leaders give go-signal for the project, GMA regional network news Ratsada reported Friday.

Company sources said that prices of oil and coal will continue to rise in the coming years and biomass could be an alternative source of renewable and cleaner energy.

The biomass plant will use rice straw, corn husks and other agricultural wastes as fuel.

The firm assures that the plant will strictly follow European emission standards, and that project will not pose environmental destruction.

It plans to construct a 15-megawatt biomass power plant each in the provinces of Capiz, Iloilo and Aklan.

After seeking approval from local government units and from residents, the company will start right away the construction of the plant.
